Oil filtration

The aim of filtration is to remove the turbidity and solids extracted during the pressing of raw materials with from the trub oil. These are mainly fine solid particles of the seed/raw material that have been pressed through the strainer bars of the screw press. However, glycerides, waxes and mucilage are also found in the oil and can be removed by the filtration process.

Depending on the application and desired product properties, various filtration processes are used in an oil mill:

  • Manual sedimentation filtration
  • Predominantly discontinuous cake filtration using chamber filter presses, cricket filters and pressure leaf filters.
  • Continuous filtration by centrifugal forces using centrifuges, decanters and separators
